Do the little luxuries in life make all the difference to you? Whip cream on your mocha, heated leather seats in your car, or even fancy olive oil in your cooking? Then 558 Zircon Way may just be the house for you. This house is beyond nice and just a little luxurious, not over the top---just right!

If you are indeed someone who loves to cook this home is also just right for you. The kitchen is packed with luxuries amenities the home chef will be drooling over. The kitchen has a gas cook top stove and double ovens. There is tons of counter space for every kitchen appliance and gadget imaginable and huge 42” cabinets---all the way up to the ceiling. Four cabinets have beautiful glass doors to display nice objects. Adjacent to the kitchen is a small eating area that looks over the garden and a little workspace perfect for a laptop station or all your cookbooks and recipes.

Speaking of the garden, this home has a beautiful one. The garden has a rock fountain, a staircase, lots of shrubbery and privacy. The home has a nice deck and a hot tub, which would be included with the house (as well as 3 flat screen TV’s and an air hockey game).

The finished basement includes some luxuries as well---a bedroom and bathroom complete with a towel warmer and a steam shower. Lovely! The master bedroom also has the luxury of a gas fireplace.

Check out this house and take in the views from the beautiful and grand spiral staircase in the center of the home. Take in all the little details from built-in glass shelving, fireplaces, professional paint colors, pristine white woodwork and gleaming wood floors.

Just south of Martin Acres, cyclists, walkers, and runners transition a time warp that drops them back into Boulder’s mining history. Along a short stretch of Marshall Road, where it paralles Highway 93 just south of Table Mesa road, lie remnants of Boulder’s coal mining heritage, one shared from Boulder south to Littleton and east to Lafayette, one spawned by the rich coal formation that fed a lucrative coal mining business from the mid nineteenth century to the mid twentieth.

Just after Boulder’s founding in 1859 by the Boulder Land and Trust Company, immigrants from the east coast flocked to the area not for gold but for the rich coal seams around the Marshall Mesa. The first coalmine in Marshall, called the “Washington Lode,” was the project of William and Nancy Kitchens. It spontaneously combusted shortly afterward, and the fire continues to burn deep underground.

Joseph M. Marshall, for whom area, town, and road were named, was among the founders of Colorado’s iron industry. He seized upon the importance of controlling the coal mines for the future of the iron and railroad industries, buying the Kitchens’ mine in 1866. From there followed the history of Marshall, a rowdy mining town, the arrival on the railroads of the posh coal barons, and the environmental controversy that ensued into the twentieth century.

Crest View is a Boulder community that offers great coffee spots and just as enticing entertainment venues. From Logan’s Espresso Cafe to the Nomad Theatre, you are sure to get your fill of caffeinated goodness and spotlighted drama. Another thing this neighborhood spins out is solid academic institutions. The schools offer an innovative curriculum that is sure to bring out the best in each pupil. The list below showcases a few that, in our opinion, earn a limitless amount of gold stars.

Preschool

Kindergarten Enrichment at Crest View

Fostering children’s imaginations in an environment conducive for exploration is an important goal of the Kindergarten Enrichment Program at Crest View. Providing a nurturing environment where little ones can learn the value of teamwork and cooperation is priority number one. Your curious child will get a chance to learn through playing. Music, movement and discovering the endless possibilities of nature are just a few of the creative activities offered.

Elementary School

Crest View Elementary

Not only does this school care deeply about the mental development of its students, the physical growth holds precedent as well. As a recipient of The School Lunch Program, renegade lunch lady Chef Ann along with a team of nutrition experts revitalized Crest View’s afternoon meal options. A salad bar and a large amount of tasty healthy options are now a daily part of the school day. Crest View is also a proponent of Garden to Table— a program where students actually get a hands-on lesson in agriculture and later enjoy the tasty produce that they helped plant. While maintaining a sturdy academic environment, Crest View also manages to keep the fun flowing with book drives, auctions and talent shows.

Middle School

Centennial Middle School

A middle school that prides itself on solid teachers who are focused on making connections with students is a true gift in today’s day and age. Bringing the personal aspect to the forefront, Centennial’s site even features blogs of certain teachers. In addition to providing top-notch academic courses, Centennial is devoted to providing extracurricular activities that students savor. Art club, jazz band and rock climbing are just a few of the many to choose from.

High School

Tara Performing Arts High School

This high school seems like it should be overrun with dancing teens, bursting out their best musical theater voices between bell rings. A school that fosters the potential of future artists and stars, Tara is certainly unique. Founded in 2001, this extraordinary school fuses together math, science and foreign language with the arts. Musical theater, art and music are given just as much attention as the main staple studies. With only 50 students overall, this school knows the importance of personalized attention. Recognizing the importance of travel, Tara offers fieldtrips that go beyond the Rocky Mountains. NYC visits to the MoMA and the Met are common. Seniors get to explore the cultural landmarks of Europe. Nothing like the savory sights of Vienna and London to close out the four years of high school.

I've been walking by these interesting looking towers in front of the South Boulder Rec Center for weeks now. I would turn and glance back at them, but it wasn't until a few days ago that I stopped to investigate. They are electric car charging machines right here in SoBo. How many of us have 100% electric cars? I am all for them, don't get me wrong, and I guess putting in charging stations is the first step to getting more on the road. The electric car is alive and well. Good going Boulder Parks and Rec! Charge your electric car at the SoBo Rec Center!

It’s true In North Boulder we are offered the best in transportation options: There's the endless bike paths, the ones that take off in every direction taking you downtown, to Lyons, the Rez and up Lee Hill. Sitting at the intersection of Broadway and Highway 36, it’s also good for driving. But my favorite transport inNoBo are the buses. They offer a certain comfort in their regularity. I am SKIP man, living only 2 blocks from Broadway, the which the SKIP strides up and down just about every 10 minutes, meaning that most days I only have to wait 9 minutes and 30 seconds for the next one.

Even on those days when snow piles up in all its fluffy glory and I find myself trudging though feet of it to the bus stop, there is a welcoming site: that green rectangle know as the SKIP, a bike or two on its front, as it lopes and careens gently towards me, it’s warmth beckoning I meet my neighbors on the bus too, we catch up on the 15 minutes it takes for it to unload me to Pearl Street. Some days, when I just want to plug in my ipod and groove away with the sunshine lapping my face, the SKIP allows that too, like a good neighbor should.

The Charming Details of Superior’s Old Town

Superior’s Old Town offers a glimpse of the past and is a charming contrast to the Rock Creek homes of today. The Town of Superior of 2012 can be divided into three main areas: Rock Creek, Superior, and Old Town. Rock Creek was established in the 1990’s and consists of the majority of residences in the area: large, beautiful, luxurious modern homes that were once part of the Parade of Homes. Superior has homes outside of the boundaries of Rock Creek (South of Coalton Rd. and to the Northwest of Old Town behind Target). Finally, there is Old Town: quaint and small homes packed with history.

Superior has a mining and agricultural past beginning in about 1894 or so (the town was official in 1904). The small homes built for the miners and farmers still exist today. Many homes in Old Town are replicas of the “small, cheap, and lovely” homes advertised to working families in the past. Many homes have been expanded and changed or new homes have been built, but driving through 1st through 4th Avenues you get a sense of what the town used to be like. Many of the homes built in the 1930’s and 40’s are still standing.

There seems to still be at least one working farm in Superior, though there are probably more. When you drive North on McCaslin Blvd. towards Rock Creek you can see a herd of cows on your right-hand side. This farm still operates today and is considered part of Old Town. The cows were out on a sunny and snowy day huddled together in the mud.

Take a drive through the little part of Old Town and notice the details of the past. Barns, sheds, intricate metal work, telegraph poles etc. All these details get lost sometimes in the big homes of Rock Creek. I bet the people who settled in Superior and lived in what is now called Old Town would be so shocked by the size, luxury and amenities of modern-day Superior.

Old Town is simply darling and cute!

This is a large and stunning 5 bedroom home with more than 5,000 square feet. The house is open and bright and the new kitchen is really beautiful. The kitchen is perfectly situated between the family room, kitchen eating area and the formal dining room.

I really liked how the walkway from the front and back upstairs bedrooms overlooks both the front of the house and back to the great room. The master bedroom upstairs is really incredible with lots of space and skylights in the bath and walk-in closet.

Downstairs has tall ceilings and plenty of finished space for playing. Also, there is a great deal of unfinished space for either storage or to increase the living space in the basement.

On top of all that is a 3-car garage, which I don't see much of in the Eisenhower neighborhood. This would be a great find for a large family or ones looking for plenty of room to spread out or entertain. The house sits on more than a ¼ acre.
