Tara Performing Arts High School: Crest View’s Neighborhood High School
It's pretty hard to resist the allure of any school with the motto, "For those who do not wish to remain anonymous.”
Since 2001, the Tara Performing Arts High School has graced Boulder's educational landscape, offering an alternative learning experience in the Waldorf tradition. With the entire school population kept down around 50 students (12 to 15 per grade), Tara's approach has as much to do with cultivating a worldview as it does self activation.
Integrating math, science, and foreign language with an emphasis on culture, a major part of the Tara experience also involves immersion, including journeys to America Indian homelands, Art and Music History trips to New York City, and a month-long World History sojourn through Europe.
Meanwhile, the Dance, Theater, and Music curriculum is geared toward focusing on each individual's unique talents in the performing arts.
The mission? “Our goal is to awaken students' minds and hearts, foster their sense of connection to each other and the world, to engage them in meaningful work and activities, and excite them about life itself. Accordingly, we provide an educational path that asks students to step into the light as individuals and to learn to take the kind of risks involved in being truly human.”
Tara presents a worthy option for those looking outside the public school system with more specific educational goals. For interested parents and students, take a peek at Tara's “Open House” opportunities to get a taste of what might be your high school future.
Located within the Crest View neighborhood, just south of Crestview Park, this school is within walking distance of all area homes and in close proximity to the Nomad Theatre.
